appease的基本意思是“平息”,指平息怒氣、平息紛爭(zhēng)等或以滿足對(duì)方要求等讓步方式來(lái)?yè)嵛磕橙?使其停止做某事。引申可指緩解饑渴,使人的胃口或欲望等得到滿足等。
appease只用作及物動(dòng)詞,后可接名詞或代詞作賓語(yǔ); appease可用于被動(dòng)結(jié)構(gòu)。
