splendid的基本意思是“極好的”,表示勝過(guò)一般的或通常的事物,指因極令人滿意而“感到極好的”,引申可指“壯麗的,輝煌的”。
splendid本身含有“極”的意思,故不可用very修飾。
在非正式文體中, splendid有時(shí)可以放在某些指壞事的名詞前,它并不起什么語(yǔ)義作用,而只用來(lái)加強(qiáng)后面名詞的語(yǔ)義功能。
splendid是個(gè)含有絕對(duì)意義的詞,習(xí)慣上只用于肯定句,不用于否定句、疑問(wèn)句或條件句,但可用于否定疑問(wèn)句。
