what有時候可解釋為whatever，表示“不管怎么樣”。

what用作疑問代詞時,其基本意思是“什么,什么東西,什么事情”,用作疑問句,為特殊疑問句的一個標(biāo)志。
what作關(guān)系代詞時,其含意是“所…的事(物)”�？捎脕硪龑�(dǎo)主語從句,表語從句,賓語從句或同位語從句。當(dāng)引導(dǎo)主語從句,其所指的名詞必定是單數(shù)。主語是單數(shù)時,謂語動詞一般是單數(shù),但有時因謂語動詞之后有復(fù)數(shù)名詞,謂語動詞也可用復(fù)數(shù); what引導(dǎo)賓語從句時,常置于謂語之后,用作表語時,放在系動詞之后。what還可引導(dǎo)讓步狀語從句,意思是“不管…”。還可接動詞不定式短語。
what用作疑問限定詞或關(guān)系限定詞時,含意是“什么”,只用作定語,引出疑問句或從句。例如:What color is it?它是什么顏色的?We don't know what plan they are going to try.我們不曉得他們要試什么計劃。
what還可用于感嘆句,表示“多么…”,在句中作限定詞。在單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞前用what a,在復(fù)數(shù)名詞和不可數(shù)名詞前用what。例如:What a tall tree it is!多高的樹啊!What genius he has! 他真有才華!What happy children they are!他們是些多么幸福的孩子呀!
what用作副詞時,表示“多少,到什么程度”。例如:What does the new measure benefit the teachers?這個新措施使教師們得益多大?
