abreast的基本意思是“并列,并排”,在句中常用作狀語(多位于詞尾)或表語，用作表語時常用于be〔keep〕 abreast of〔with〕短語中。
abreast不用于比較等級。
用作副詞 (adv.) The four of them walked abreast.
四人并肩而行。
They walked two or three abreast.
他們兩三個人一排地走著。
Hayes' horse fell abreast of his father's.
海斯和他父親騎馬并肩而行。
Many people get abreast of what is gong on by reading newspapers.
