permeate的基本意思是“彌漫”“充滿”“滲透”,指任何種類的液體或氣體“滲入”“透過”某種物質(zhì)或?qū)嶓w的所有細孔、空隙,也可引申指某種意識、現(xiàn)象等“充滿”“遍布”一個區(qū)域。
permeate可用作及物動詞,也可用作不及物動詞。用作及物動詞時,接名詞或代詞作賓語,用作不及物動詞時,常與介詞among〔through,with〕連用。
用作動詞 (v.) His subtle satisfaction seemed to permeate the space around them.
