convene的基本含義是“召開,召集”,指把原本分散的人〔物〕集中起來。
convene既可作不及物動詞,又可作及物動詞。作及物動詞時，其賓語可以是會議、比賽等名詞,也可以是人。
用作不及物動詞 (vi.) The tribunal will convene tomorrow.
法庭將于明日開庭。
The committee will convene at 11.30 next Thursday.
委員會將在下星期四上午 11:30 開會。
用作及物動詞 (vt.) People were convened here for an emergency meeting.
