counter的基本意思是“對抗”“反駁”,指對立面采取的行動或行為,雖未必存在敵意,但確實產(chǎn)生了沖突或處于緊張狀態(tài)。
counter用作及物動詞時,可接名詞或名詞從句作賓語。用作不及物動詞時,常與介詞with搭配,表示“還擊”。
用作名詞 (n.) He placed the money on the counter.
