Grammar

1. The first thing I tried to do was to see if there were products that might help me, but there only seemed to be powders designed to kill snakes. 首先我查看是否有產(chǎn)品能幫助我,但看來(lái)只有一種毒殺蛇的藥粉。(P.20)

「點(diǎn)撥1」本句中there seemed to be是there be句型的特殊形式,表示“似乎有”。注意其時(shí)態(tài)的變化,如:seem to do / seem to be doing / seem to have done 等。

「點(diǎn)撥2」 designed過(guò)去分詞作后置定語(yǔ),修飾前面的名詞powders,表被動(dòng)。

「考例」

“Things ______ never come again!” I couldn‘t help talking to myself. (2014,湖南)

A. lost B. losing C. to lose D. have lost「解析」答案A. 句意為:“失去的事物不會(huì)再回來(lái)!”我忍不住自言自語(yǔ)。本題考查非謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞。因?yàn)閠hings和lose之間是被動(dòng)關(guān)系,須用過(guò)去分詞作定語(yǔ)。單個(gè)的過(guò)去分詞作定語(yǔ)時(shí)一般位于名詞之前,但有時(shí)為了強(qiáng)調(diào),也可放在名詞之后作后置定語(yǔ)。

2. For the second attempt I froze the bowl and ice-cubes again but placed them over the snakes habitat in the evening as the temperature was staring to cool. 第二次試驗(yàn)時(shí),我把碗和冰塊再次凍好,但在傍晚氣溫開(kāi)始下降的時(shí)候把它們放在蛇穴的上方。(P.20)

「點(diǎn)撥」 本句中but連接兩個(gè)并列的動(dòng)作froze和placed; as引導(dǎo)時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)從句,表示“當(dāng)……時(shí)候”。注意 as在英語(yǔ)中起的作用很多,它可以引導(dǎo)時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)從句、讓步狀語(yǔ)從句、原因狀語(yǔ)從句、定語(yǔ)從句等。

A. Strange as might it sound B. As it might sound strange C. As strange it might sound D. Strange as it might sound「解析」 答案D.句意為:盡管他的想法聽(tīng)起來(lái)有些奇怪,但與會(huì)的所有人都接受了。本題考查倒裝語(yǔ)序。 as引導(dǎo)讓步狀語(yǔ)從句時(shí),作表語(yǔ)的形容詞要前置。
