Doctors soeties prescribe light therapy to treat a for of depression in people who get too little orning sun.But too uch light at other ties ay actually cause such ood disorders. Long-lasting exposure to light at night brings depression, a new study finds, at least in anials.
The new data confir observations fro studies of people who work night shifts, says Richard Stevens of the University of Connecticut Health Center.ood disorders join a growing list of probles, including cancer, obesity and diabetes?hat can occur when light throws life out of balance by disturbing the biological clock and its tiing of daily rhyths.
In the new study, Tracy Bedrosian and Randy Nelson of Ohio State University exposed ice to noral light and dark cycles for four weeks. For the next four weeks, half of the ice reained on this schedule, and the rest received continuous di light throughout their night.Copared with ice exposed to noral nighttie darkness, those getting di light at night lost their strong preference for sweet drinks, " a sign they no longer get pleasure out of activities they once enjoyed," Bedrosian says.
In a second test, ice were clocked on how long they actively tried to escape a pool of water. Those exposed to night lights stopped struggling and just floated in the water, a sign of "behavioral despair" , 10 ties as long as the ice that had experienced noral nighttie darkness. All syptos of depression disappeared within two weeks of the ice returning to a noral light-dark cycle, the researchers report. The scientists also could quash the behavioral syptos by injecting (注射) the brains of anials with a drug that prohibits the activity of certain olecules linked with huan depression. This finding further suggests that light at night ay cause soething related to depression.
Huan studies linking nighttie light and ood disorders are iportant but can't easily detect olecular underpinnings (分子基礎(chǔ)) as anial studies can, says George Brainard of Thoas Jefferson University. The new work, he says, suggests that the change of the biological clock by light at night can be "an extreely powerful force in regulating biology and behavior.

Why Doesn't Anybody Copy Apple?
Apple’s products are the envy of the world. They have beenspectacularly successful and are widely iitated, if not copied. The inute Apple crystallizes a product, everyone knows how to copete.
This idea that the basis of copetition is set by Apple and then the
race is on to clib the path of iproveent is unquestionable. When
Apple releases a product that defines a category or draatically
changes the structure of an industry, it becoes obvious what needs to be built. But what I wonder is why everyone wants to copy Apple's products but nobody wants to copy being Apple?
I can think of two reasons.Firstly, Apple is not worth copying because it's not successful; secondly, Apple's success cannot be copied because it is a agical process.
There is a great deal of evidence for the first hypothesis. The idea of Apple being successful is not soething reflected in its stock price.Being valued lower than the average copany in the S≈P(標(biāo)準(zhǔn)普爾)500 indicates that to whatever degree Apple was successful in the past, it's not seen by the vast ajority of observers as successful in the future. Why should one bother copying Apple if it results in being punished with a low valuation? If one works really hard at innovation and then that innovation becoes cooditized(商品化) very quickly, why should one bother?
When innovation practitioners are asked what akes Apple successful, the answers regarding the cause of this success border on the ythical. The cliax of this hypothesis is the " chief-sorcerer" theory of success which places one agician, like Steve Jobs, in charge of casting all the right spells (符咒).
What about Apple's own opinion of what akes it tick? Ti Cook refers to a great tea and integration of hardware, software and services as unique Apple advantages. It's a better explanation. Integration is soething that can take a long tie, but it is possible with great effort.A few copanies are starting to ake oves in that direction, but efforts are half-hearted.There is no "ove the Earth" panic to becoe an integrated copany fro Sasung, Google or icrosoft.
y own suspicion is that Apple is ore aware of wliat akes it special than it lets out. However, as Ti points out, it's not a forula. It's coplex, it's subtle, but it's not agic. It's a process that requires a degree of faith and courage.
67.When a new product of Apple coes out, often it ______.
A.ruins an industry draatically
B.starts a revolution of an industry
C.puts itself in an unbeatable position
D.is soon overtaken by iitated products
68.According to the passage, other copanies don't "copy being Apple" because ______.
A.Apple is not a successful copany
B.they have no access to relevant resources
C.it's hard to find a agician like Steve Jobs
D.being Apple takes ore than tie and efforts
69.We can infer fro Para.5 that ______.
A.other copanies are dedicated to integration
B.Apple itself is fully aware of its unique advantages
C.Apple will hold the leading position in this industry
D.other copanies don't have a great tea as Apple does
70.What does the author think of Ti Cook's stateent?
A.Convincing. B.Disappointing.
C.Unquestionable. D.Acceptable.
Apathy
Apathy is a stale of lacking interest, enthusias or concern. 71 They ay also exhibit unfeelingness.Christians have condened apathy as a lack of love and devotion to God and His works.
72 Also eaning "absence of passion" in Greek, the ter "apatheia" was used by the Stoics (禁欲主義者) to show a desirable state of indifference towards events and things which lie outside one's control.
The odern concept of apathy becae well known after World War I, when it was called " shell shock. " Soldiers, living in the trenches aong the bobing and gun fires, saw the battlefields filled with dead and wounded copanions. 73 In 1950, US novelist Passes wrote "Apathy is one of the characteristic responses of any living being when it is subjected to soething too tense or too coplicated to deal with." US philosopher Robert .Hutchins suarizes the concerns about political indifference. He clais that the death of deocracy is not likely to be a sudden urder fro abush (埋伏). 74
There ay be other things contributing to a person's apathy.Activist Dave eslin argues that apathy is often the result of social systes actively blocking engageent and involveent. He describes various barriers that prevent people fro knowing how or why they ight get involved in soething. 75 These include: political edia that ake it difficult for potentially interested people to find relevant inforation, and edia descriptions of heroes as " chosen" by outside forces rather than self-otivated.He suggests that we redefine social apathy as a result of poorly designed systes that fail to invite others to participate.
A.It will be a slow process of fading away fro apathy and indifference.
B.Apathetic people ay lack a sense of purpose or eaning in their life.
C.He focuses on designed choices that deliberately or indeliberately exclude people.
D.The word "dispassion" is used for "apatheia" , so as not to confuse it with apathy.
E.So they gradually developed a sense of disconnected nubness to noral social interaction.
F.Although the word "apathy" originates fro "apatheia" , it is iportant not to confuse the two ters.
G.Author John canay argues apathy is a psychological proble for soe depressed people, in which they get a sense that "nothing atters".
