17． Do You Fear the Wind?

[導(dǎo)讀] 哈姆林加蘭 （Hamlin Garland 1860-1940)生于威斯康星州，早年曾在愛阿華州和 南達(dá)科他州住過。中學(xué)畢業(yè)后赴波士頓，決心描寫他熟悉的地區(qū)。這首詩注重格律，講究韻腳，是歷來傳唱的經(jīng)典之一。

Do you fear the force of the wind,
The slash of the rain?
Go face them and fight them,
Be savage again.
Go hungry and cold like the wolf,
Go wade like the crane:
The palms of your hands will thicken,
The skin of your cheek will tan,
You'll grow ragged and weary and swarthy,
But you'll walk like a man!

savage：野蠻的, 兇猛的
palm: 手掌
tan：曬黑, 曬成褐色
ragged：粗糙的
weary: 疲倦的, 厭倦的
swarthy: adj.黑黝黝的, 淺黑的
