用法一、起副詞作用，其意為“以防萬一”。

You had better carry some money in case. 你最好帶些錢，以防萬一。

It may rain; you’d better take an umbrella in case. 可能下雨——你最好帶把傘，以防萬一。

用法二、起連詞作用，用于引導(dǎo)條件狀語從句和目的狀語從句

① 引導(dǎo)條件狀語從句，意為“假使”“如果”。如：

In case he comes, let me know. 如果他來的話，告訴我一聲。

In case they’re late, we can always sit in the bar. 要是他們來晚了，我們總可以在酒吧里坐一坐。

這類從句的謂語除通常使用陳述語氣外，有時(shí)也可使用“(should+)動(dòng)詞原形”這樣的虛擬語氣。如：

I bought the car at once in case he changed [should change] his mind. 我馬上買下那輛汽車，以免他變卦。

② 引導(dǎo)目的狀語從句，意為“以防”“免得”。如：

Be quiet in case you wake the baby. 輕點(diǎn)兒，別吵醒嬰兒。

Write the telephone number down in case you forget. 把電話號(hào)碼寫下來以免忘了。
