用法一 another或“another+單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞”泛指“另一個(gè)，有一個(gè)，再一個(gè)”，其復(fù)數(shù)形式是others或“other+復(fù)數(shù)名詞”泛指“別人或別的物”，有some…others(一些…另一些…)之搭配。如：

1. —What do you think of the cake?

—It’s nice. I’d like to have ________.

A. some other B. another

C. others D. other

【分析】答案選B。another指再來一塊或增再加一塊。

2. Young people may grow quickly in some ways and more slowly in ________.

A. the other B. some other

C. others D. these others

【分析】答案選C。some…others…一些…另一些…。the other指兩者中的“另一個(gè)”;some other后必須接名詞。

3. Some people like to stay at home on Sunday but ________ like to go to the cinema.

A. another B. other

C. others D. other one

【分析】答案選C。some…others…是固定搭配。再說，根據(jù)like可知，主語為復(fù)數(shù)，也只用這個(gè)答案。

用法二 the other(+單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞)特指兩者中的另一個(gè)，常有one…the other(一個(gè)…另一個(gè)…)的搭配;其復(fù)數(shù)形式the others或“the other +復(fù)數(shù)名詞”特指在某些人或物中，除去一部分后，“其余的”“剩下的”人或物。如：

I have two brothers. One is a teacher and the other is a worker. 我有兩個(gè)兄弟。一個(gè)是教師，另一個(gè)是工人。

I have four pens. One is red; the others (或the other three) are black. 我有三支鋼筆，一支是紅色的，另兩支是黑色的。

用法三 another還可用于“another+基數(shù)詞或few+復(fù)數(shù)名詞”中，與“數(shù)詞或some+more / other +復(fù)數(shù)名詞”相當(dāng)。如：

1. Shanghai is a fascinating city and we’ve decided to stay for ________ two weeks.

A. another B. other

C. the other D. other’s

【分析】答案選A。another two weeks = two other / more weeks = a further two weeks。

2. If you want to change for a double room you’ll have to pay ________ $15.

A. another B. other

C. more D. each

【分析】答案選A。another $15就是another 15 dollars。
