1. 表示“機(jī)會(huì)”，是可數(shù)名詞，要表示“做某事的機(jī)會(huì)”，其后可接 to do sth 或 of doing sth。如：

It is a good chance to study [of studying] English. 這是學(xué)習(xí)英語的好機(jī)會(huì)。

注：有時(shí)用 a chance for doing sth, 但較少見。

2. 表示“希望”、“可能性”，可用作可數(shù)名詞或不可數(shù)名詞。要表示“做某事的可能性”，通常后接“of＋(動(dòng))名詞”或由that引導(dǎo)的同位語從句。如：

He has a good chance (no chance, not much chance) ofwinning. 他很有希望(沒有希望，沒多大希望)獲勝。

There is still chance that you will pass the exam. 你考試及格還是有希望的。

注：在現(xiàn)代英語中，chance 表示“可能性”時(shí)，其后有時(shí)也可接不定式，但不如用 of doing sth 普通。

3. 用于 by chance, 意為“偶然地”、“無意中”。如：

He met her by chance. 他是偶然遇到她的。

Did he do so on purpose or by chance? 他這樣做是有意還是無意?

1. 用作名詞，表示“變化”、“改變”，多用作可數(shù)名詞，有時(shí)也可用作不可數(shù)名詞：

自1978年以來這里發(fā)生了巨大的變化。

正:Great changes have taken place here since 1978.

正:Much change has taken place here since 1978.

2. 表示在某一方面的變化或改變，通常用介詞 in。如：

There has been a change in the programme. 節(jié)目已有變動(dòng)。

We hope there will be a change in the weather. 我們希望天氣會(huì)變好。

比較以下用介詞 of 的情形：

a change of meaning 詞義的變化

a change of leadership 更換領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人

a change of address 住址的變更

3. 表示“零錢”、“找頭”，是不可數(shù)名詞。如：

Don’t forget your change. 不要忘記找給你的錢。

I have no (small) change about me. 我身邊沒帶零錢。

4. 用于 for a change, 意為“為了變化”。如：

We usually go there by bus, but this time we’ll go by bike for a change. 我們通常是乘公共汽車去那兒，但這次我們想個(gè)方式騎自行車去。

5. 用作動(dòng)詞，比較以下句型：

(1) change……for……意為“用……換來……”。如：

I’m thinking of changing my car for a new one. 我正考慮換輛新車。

(2) change……into……意為“把……變成(換成)……”。如：

He changed his dollars into francs. 他把美元換成了法朗。

We can change ice into water by heating it. 通過加熱我們可以把冰變成水。

注意以下受漢語思維影響所導(dǎo)致的錯(cuò)誤：

這部照相機(jī)不夠好，我想換一部。

正:The camera isn’t good enough; I want to change it (for another).

誤:The camera isn’t good enough; I want to change another.

6. 在下列表達(dá)中，change 后的名詞用復(fù)數(shù)形式：
