1. 可用于稱呼，可單獨使用，也可與教名連用。如：

Hi, Aunt (Uncle)! 姑姑(叔叔)，你好!

Aunt Mary is my mother’s sister. 瑪麗姑媽是我母親的妹妹。

Take me with you, Uncle Jack. 杰克叔叔，帶我一起去吧。

2. 注意以下表達：

(1) Uncle Sam 意為“山姆大叔”，是美國或美國人的綽號。

比較: John Bull 意為“約翰�！�，是英國或英國人的綽號。

(2) Uncle Tom, 意為“湯姆大伯”，指與白人交往且竭力討好白人的黑人，常帶有貶義。

1. 用作名詞，有兩個主要意思：

(1) 表示“平均”、“平均數(shù)”。如：

The average of 2，4 and 6 is 4. 2，4，6 的平均數(shù)是4。

An average of 10 students are absent each day. 平均每天有10個學(xué)生缺席。

(2) 表示“普通”、“標準”、“平常”。如：
