在中國,凡逢春節(jié)和其他的喜慶日子,人們總要燃放爆竹來表示慶賀.燃放爆竹可以說是中國民間一個十分重要的風俗習慣.

爆竹也叫"炮竹","爆仗","炮仗",平常人們更習慣叫"鞭炮",有大約2000多年的歷史了.最早的爆竹叫"庭燎".是用竹竿一類的東西做成火炬,燃燒時發(fā)出噼噼啪啪的爆裂聲,也叫"爆竿.

燃放爆竹風俗最早起因于驅(qū)鬼除邪,祈求一年的吉祥順利.傳說,有個叫做"山臊"的四角怪獸和惡鬼平常藏在深山,每隔365天便出來傷害人畜.這些無惡不做的壞東西害怕爆炸的聲音和亮光.于是,每到歲末年首,人們就爭著燃放鞭炮,用來驅(qū)趕"山臊"和惡鬼.

中國的唐代發(fā)明火藥以后,人們便把火藥放進竹筒,點燃后發(fā)出巨大的聲音,這種爆竹叫做"爆竹筒".到了宋代,爆竹的制作方法改為把火藥裝進用紙卷成的筒里,名字也叫爆竹了.后來人們開始把許多小的炮仗用藥線連接起來,成為"一發(fā)連百余響不絕"的鞭炮.講究的鞭炮用紅顏色的紙制作,鞭炮爆炸后,紅屑滿地,人稱"滿地紅",表示吉利.隨著發(fā)展,鞭炮的品種和色彩也由原來的單調(diào)發(fā)展得豐富多彩,有小鞭炮,電光雷,母子雷,射天炮,百頭,千頭鞭,甚至還有幾萬頭長的鞭炮.

現(xiàn)在,隨著人們環(huán)保意識的加強,燃放鞭炮的習俗在中國很多大城市中受到禁止.但是,聰明的中國人依然想出了其他熱鬧的慶祝節(jié)日的辦法.

Spring Festival

The Spring Festival is very important to Chinese people.
In the past, people could not often have meat, rice or other delicious food. They could only eat these during the Spring festival. So every year they hoped that the Spring Festival would come soon. Now, although people’s life is much better, and we can eat the delicious foods everyday. People still like the festival. Because most people can have a long holiday, and we are free to go on a trip or visit our friends or have parties with our family. In the evenings, we can have a big meal in the restaurant or stay at home with family and watch the TV programmes.
