v.(動詞)
adjourn的基本意思是“休會; 休庭; 延期”,可用作不及物動詞,也可用作及物動詞。用作不及物動詞時主語可為會議、談判、法庭等。用作及物動詞時,主語可為主席、委員會、董事會等名詞或代詞,賓語則可為會議、談判、審判、調(diào)查等。
adjourn for可表示“中止某事而去做另一事”; adjourn to可表示會議等“移到另一房間”或“移到另一處”; 表示“延期至…”則可說adjourn to或adjourn until。
用作動詞 (v.) The meeting adjourned till five o'clock.
會議延至五點召開。
The chairman adjourn the meeting for a week.
主席把會議延期一周。
The motion to adjourn was carried.
休會的提議通過了。
The meeting will adjourn sine die.
這個會議將會無限期休會。
