當(dāng)然若說話者覺得他所提出的邀請(qǐng)比較適合聽話人的意愿，或認(rèn)為聽話者很可能會(huì)接受此項(xiàng)邀請(qǐng)，或說話雙方關(guān)系很熟悉等，也可用比較直接的方式提出邀請(qǐng):
Have a cup of tea. 喝杯茶吧。
Help yourself. 隨便吃吧。
Come and see us next time you’re in town. 下次進(jìn)城，來看我們。
Try some of this cake. 吃吃這塊蛋糕。
這里順便說一句，在 Have a cup of tea. 這類用祈使句表示的邀請(qǐng)句中，一般不宜按漢語習(xí)慣加上 please 一詞，否則會(huì)使邀請(qǐng)變?yōu)槠蛴�。試比較：
Have some tea. 喝茶吧.
Have some tea, please. 請(qǐng)行行好，給我點(diǎn)茶吧。
但是若不是用祈使句而是用疑問句來表示邀請(qǐng)，則可以用please 一詞：
Would you like a cup of tea, please? 請(qǐng)喝杯茶吧。
若是被邀請(qǐng)者由于某種原因不能接受邀請(qǐng)，他通常應(yīng)找出合適的理由向?qū)Ψ秸f明，通常的方式是先說明自己很愿意(或很想)接受邀請(qǐng)，然后用 but 進(jìn)行轉(zhuǎn)折。如：
I’d like to, but. . . 我很想去，但是. . . . . .
I wish I could, but. . . 要是我能去就好了，但是. . . . .
I’m sorry, but. . . 很抱歉，但是. . . . . .
Thank you very much, but. . . 多謝你了，但是. . . . . .
It’s very nice of you, but I’m afraid. . . 你真好，但是我恐怕. . . . . .
值得一提的是：在陳述自已不能接受邀請(qǐng)的理由之后，最好加上一句：Thank you just [all] the same. 或 Thank you anyway. (即：盡管如此，我還是要謝謝你)。
在作口頭邀請(qǐng)時(shí)，雖然其格式不像請(qǐng)貼那樣嚴(yán)格，但也往往有些較為固定的常用客套用語，現(xiàn)歸納小結(jié)如下：
一、表示邀請(qǐng)的套語:
Would [Will] you do me the honour of dancing with me? 能請(qǐng)你跳曲舞嗎?
Would [Will] you do me the pleasure of dancing with me? 能請(qǐng)你跳曲舞嗎?
Could [May] I have the honour of dancing with you?能請(qǐng)你跳曲舞嗎?
Could [May] I have the pleasure of dancing with you? 能請(qǐng)你跳曲舞嗎?
Would [Will] you honour me with a dance? 能請(qǐng)你跳曲舞嗎?
Could [May] I have the honour of your company at dinner tonight? 今晚能請(qǐng)你共進(jìn)晚餐嗎?
Would [Will] you honour me by coming to the party tonight? 請(qǐng)你賞光出席今晚的聚會(huì)好嗎?
Would [Will] you come to our party, please? 請(qǐng)來參加我們的聚會(huì)好嗎?
Would you like a cup of tea? 要喝杯茶嗎?
Would you like to sit with us? 你愿和我們坐一起嗎?
Won’t you come in and have a cup of tea? 不進(jìn)來喝杯茶嗎?
Shall we go there together? 我們一起去好嗎?
Do join me for a coffee. 務(wù)請(qǐng)同我一起喝杯咖啡。
Do try to come. 請(qǐng)一定來。
I’m going to pay a visit to the farm. Would you like to come? 我想去農(nóng)場看看，你愿去嗎?
We’ll be glad if you can come to our meeting. 如果你能來參加我們的會(huì)議，我們將很高興。
Will you join us for dinner? 請(qǐng)你和我們一起吃飯好嗎?
I’d very much like you to come to our party. 我非常希望你能來參加我們的聚會(huì)。
What [How] about a cup of tea? 喝杯茶怎么樣?
What [How] about coming with us to the cinema?跟我們一起去看電影怎么樣?
Why don’t you [Why not] come with us? 和我們一起去呢?
