My daughter(now 18)was born with a tumor(腫瘤)on her eyelid. At first it was small, and hardly noticeable. After five months, it was about the same size as a coin. Every time I took her out, people could not help commenting, “Who hit her?”, “Is that a mosquito bite?” and so on. I could never think of a proper response to these people’s comments. I was taught to be kind and understanding, and thought that other people had been taught these attributes(特性)too. One day I was in a shopping center with my daughter. A woman approached me.
She said that God must not have wanted my daughter to leave him, as He left her with a kiss. She went on to say that babies with these kisses were always surrounded by angels. I was shocked. What a kinder, more loving approach to someone with a problem!
My daughter will graduate this year from high school. She is beautiful. Her early years were spent in and out of hospital. Finally the tumor was removed. It is not noticeable except in the bright sun. She danced for 4 years on the dance team. She had received many scholarships(獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金). Her life is wonderful. Dolphins are very interesting animals which are known as the friendliest of all. Dolphins live in deep waters but come to the shores and shallow waters for food at times. Though they live in water., they’re mammals and breathe air through their blowhole(呼吸孔)on their head. Some dolphins rise up to the surface every 20 to 30 seconds and some can hold their breath for over 30 minutes. When they sleep, half of their brain is active and one of their eyes is always open.
They have excellent sight and very well-developed eyes, which can spot food as well as enemies from a long distance. Dolphins can swim very slowly and often rest at the bottom of the sea bed. They have their won individual whistles which can be recorded and through which they communicate with each other.
Reproduction in dolphins occurs during the spring months and they find their mates much earlier than the mating(交配)period. The gestation(懷孕)period of a female dolphin is about 11 to 12 months. The calves (babies)can swim and breathe immediately after birth. Sometimes they are born at the surface of the water to help them to breathe more easily. The mother nurses the calf for the next 13 to 18 months when it stays close to the mother.
Dolphins eat many kinds of fish and squid(魷魚(yú)). Their favourite kinds of fish are mackerels(鯖)or herrings(鯡)which have fat and can provide energy for the dolphins to swim and survive. Squid don’t have much fat, so to get the equal amount of energy, dolphins eat more squid.
These are some important facts about dolphins. Unfortunately, some dolphins have become endangered and it’s our responsibility to protect these charming animals. Let’s respond to the dolphins’ call by saving them.

It would be dawn in less than an hour. For a week, Daniel Moreno, Brian Stanley, and 23 other college students from Massachusetts had been relaxing on the beach in Mexico. On their last night, Moreno and Stanley partied until 4:00 am. But as Stanley’s head hit the pillow, he heard glass shattering(破裂). From the balcony of their fourth-floor room, Moreno and Stanley saw black smoke pouring from the hotel’s tower. Almost all the hotel’s rooms had college students from the United States, and now they were screaming and trying to get out.
Moreno, 21, ran out into the corridor and began pounding on doors and shouting, “Fire!” As the smoke thickened, Moreno raced upstairs to the rooms where other students were staying. Stanley, a volunteer firefighter in his hometown, was helping people get through the smoke-filled lobby(門(mén)廳). There he joined forces with Nalewanski, who came from a family of four generations of firefighters. “Let’s go,” Nalewanski said. He and Stanley wet their shirts in the bathroom and wrapped them around their mouth and nose so that they could breathe. Then they rushed up the stairs.
In the meantime, Moreno had reached the eighth floor before turning back. He made sure he hit every door.
Nalewanski and Stanley found Moreno on the fourth floor, struggling to breathe. After making sure he could get back down on his own, they continued upstairs, down the corridors on every floor, banging their fists on every door.

All sports people are under a lot of pressure to win, so they have to be spiritually strong. In the past, athletes only trained to get physically fit. Today, professional sports psychologists use scientific techniques(技術(shù))to help athletes get spiritually fit too.
British player Johnny Wilkinson described some of the pressures he had felt. He played very well at the 2003 World Cup but after that he couldn’t play well. He found that he had a terrible fear of failure. With the help of sports psychologists, he realized that reality changes depending on how we look at it and then everything went better.
In team sports, psychologists help players in different ways, one of which is to create a team spirit. “It’s very difficult to get all the players to think in the same way, but when you see a team that works as a unit, everything happens naturally and easily, ” said Professor Dave Collins, a sports psychologist.
When there is a team spirit, the players all take responsibility and don’t blame individual players for mistakes. In this way ,they feel more confident and can concentrate better. Sometimes players are under a lot of pressure in a game. For example, a player may have to take a penalty kick. To reduce his fear of making a mistake, sports psychologists use a method called visualization(可視化). Psychologists simply ask players to imagine taking a perfect penalty. When players do this, certain areas of the brain become active. An interesting fact is that they are the same areas of the brain as when the player takes the real penalty.
Today sports psychologists have an important job to do. They help athletes become spiritually fit and develop a winning mentality(必勝信念). Having a winning mentality can really make a difference between winning and losing. Ks5u

M: Jane! Come in. I haven’t seen you for such a long time. You look more beautiful.
W: Thank you, Jack. I’m so glad you called to invite me here. I hadn’t heard from you for so long.
M: That’s because⑥I had been traveling so much for my job. I really got tired of living out of a suitcase.
W: It must be nice to be back here where you have a place that you can call your own.
M: It sure is.
W: Mmm. What are you cooking?⑦Just smelling it makes my mouth water.
M: It’s a very special food. I made plenty so that we can eat to our heart’s content.
W: Great. That’s my favorite!

M: Aren’t the new waitress great?
W: Waitresses? Those girls are the poorest excuse for waitresses I’ve ever seen.
M: At any rate, I think they’re a neat bunch of women.
W: Neat is the last word I’d use to describe them. Have you ever seen the way they wipe off the tables?⑩The table ends up looking worse than when they started.
M: Well, next time you’ll have to stop and show them the correct way to wipe.
W: Believe it or not, they will be the downfall of the hotel.
M: Oh, come on.
W: It’s true. I already caught one of them breaking the rules. ⑾She was making a personal phone call.
M: My word, a personal phone call!
W: She said it was urgent, but a rule is a rule.

W: Do you know what time you will be back this evening, Alex?
M: I’m not sure.⑿It depends on how long the interview lasts. Oh 高考資源網(wǎng), ⒀I hope things go OK. I know I can do the job. It’s just getting that across to them.
W: Just relax. Every one has his first time. Don’t get yourself worked up. Remember, you’ve got to make them believe that they need you and you are not going to do that if you ruin stays. Have some more bread, it will make you feel much better. And pass me the milk, will you? What time is your appointment?
M: 2:30.
W: ⒁Make sure you have a proper lunch, more coffee. And don’t get there too early, or you have to hang around. You’ll manage. Ok? I’m sure.
Text 9
W: Please, please, can you help me? Someone just stole my camera.
M: Calm down, Madam. Now you said your camera was stolen?
W: Yes. It was a petards, DF, Super.
M: Color?
W: Black.
M: And how much was it worth?
W: I only bought it last month. It costs 380 pounds.
M: Right. Where was it stolen?
W: ⒃In the city center, outside McDonald’s, on Hope Avenue.
M: What time was this?
W: About 2:30.
M: And did you get a look at who ever stole it?
W: ⒄It was a young man, maybe 18 with short dark hair, and glasses. He was wearing a green T-shirt.
M: And were there any other people?
W: Lots of people were there but…, oh, the ice cream seller, he was standing on the corner.
M: Ok, an ice cream seller. Now what’s your name?
W: Mary Smith.
M: OK, well Ms. Smith, that’s all we can do for now, we’ll phone you if we have any news.
W: OK, then, thank you very much.

Please don’t be late, or we’ll go without you.⒆And finally on Sunday, we are off to London, leaving at the same time. If there are any other things you’d like to do while you are here, just ask me. And I will see if I can help.
