Unit 7 To Your Good Health教案
(Comprehension focus)
Teaching aims:
This unit is about health. It deals with all the components of healthy life. It includes the text from a presentation about fitness, a song about health and three articles about various health topics. Through the course of this unit, students will learn the vocabulary involved in talking about health: the parts of the body, exercise, and nutrition. Students will share their ideas about health, fitness, and nutrition.
1. To learn for information.
2. To develop speaking ability by discussing and finally presenting their ideas about living a healthy life.
3. To master the words and phrases involved in talking about health.
4. Grammar:
Using the form “v. + ing” as participles or gerunds.
Reviewing the four kinds of sentences in English.
Important and difficult points:
1. Get students to understand what fitness means.
2. Make students learn the usage of the mastery words and phrsaes
3. Help students to review the uses of “verb+ing”form, especially as the participles.

What Does Fitness Mean?

Period one
Step 1. Pre-reading
Introduce the title “To Your Good Health?” with books closed. Brainstorm with the class many words as possible that are related to health.
Ask: 1.Do you feel healthy?
2. How do you know whether you’re healthy or not?
3. What does it mean to be healthy?
Show the Ss some pictures and help them to answer:
?What does fitness mean?
?Fitness is a word that describes how well your body is able to handle physical activities.
Write the words “Fitness” as the theme on the Bb. Then draw the following outline on the board. As a pre-reading activity, have the class predict what the outline of Unit 7 might look like. Make sure books are closed.
1. What do you need to be fit?
2. The five areas of fitness.
3. Important information?
4. What my heart looks like?
Step 2. Careful reading
1.Sho w the following questions one by one on the Bb.
What do you need to be fit?
When your body is physically fit, you will be able to:
(1)do physical things for a longer time
(2)do harder physical activities more easily

(4)sleep better
(5)digest and use your food better
(6)feel better and have more energy

(1)The heart is a muscle which pumps blood through blood vessels to all the
cells in our bodies. Our hearts beat continually every day.

Discussion:
Do you often have such life experiences? For example, you can't do physical things for a long time; you won't fall asleep at night easily and always feel tired after waking up the next day, in class you are often absentminded instead of focusing your attention on your lessons. In that case, please discuss the following questions with your partners:
  1. What are the causes of these phenomena?
  2. How can you deal with the problem?
  3. How important is good health to you?

Step 2. Meaning through practice
1.Divide the class into groups. Give each group a large piece of paper to draw the human body and write the words an the body parts. As the students are working, provide the following word on the board: heart, lungs, kidney, brain, stomach, liver, artery, veins, and bones.

Discuss the meaning of each prefix. Have the students write a sentence for each word.
Explain that under is also a proposition or prefix meaning: 1. below, beneath 2. lower in status 3. incomplete

Step 3. Writing
Write an invitation to a dinner party with a menu. Use the sample shown in the text as a model.
Use the mapping strategy to help the students organize their ideas. Illustrate on the board a circle with lines going out from the circle. The circle represents how to develop a health lifestyle. Each line will represent a component of a healthy lifestyle. In groups have the students identify the components. For example: diet, ph ysical, mental, social/emotional.
Students will make a chart that has the components listed on each side of the columns. Under each component list the unhealthy and healthy habits of parents, classmates, etc.
Divide the class into g roups. Students will share their list of unhealthy and healthy habits. As a group, the students make a “Do” and “Don’t” chart. Remind the students to use modals in this activity because they are giving advice as to what are unhealthy and healthy habits. For example:“You should ride your bicycle every day” “ You should not smoke.”
Step 4. Grammar: 現(xiàn)在分詞
現(xiàn)在分詞表示“主動和進(jìn)行”,分詞可以有自己的狀語、賓語或邏輯主語等。
1.分詞作狀語分詞在句子中作狀語,可以表示時間、條件、原因、結(jié)果、讓步、伴隨等。分詞做狀語時,它的邏輯主語與句子的主語一致。作狀語的分詞相當(dāng)于一個狀語從句。
【例如】 Hear ing the news, they all jumped with joy. Using what you know of word stems and word formations, you can make a guess at the meaning of a new word.

  分詞在句子中作狀語,使用何種分詞,要取決于分詞與句子主語的關(guān)系:主謂關(guān)系用現(xiàn)在分詞,動賓或被動關(guān)系 用過去分詞。

  2.“while ( when, once, until, if , though等連詞)+分詞”結(jié)構(gòu)現(xiàn)在分詞或過去分詞作狀語時,有時可以在分詞前加while,when, once, although, until, if等連詞。
【例如】 When leaving the airport, she waved again and again to us.While waiting for the train, I had a long talk with my sister about her work..
  Once recovered, he threw himselfsintoshis work and made every effort to do it well.
  Although working very hard, he failed to pass the final exam.If translated word by word, the passage will be difficult to understand.
  3. 分詞作定語分詞作定語時,單個的分詞通常放在被修飾的名詞之前,分詞短語一般置于所修飾的中心詞后面,F(xiàn)在分詞修飾的是發(fā)出該動作的名詞(即與名詞有主謂關(guān)系),過去分詞修飾承受該動作的名詞(即與名詞是動賓關(guān)系)。
【例如】 We will go on with our experiment as soon as we get the added fund.
  This is really an exhausting day to all of us!
  We can see the part of the moon lighted by sunlight.
  After a night spent in excitement and sleeplessness, I forced myself to take a long walk along t he beach the next day.

  4. 分詞作賓語補(bǔ)足語現(xiàn)在分詞在see, watch, hear, observe, notice, feel, find, glimpse, glance等感官動詞和look at, listen to等短語動詞以及have, keep, get, catch, leave, set, start, send等使役動詞 后面與名詞或代詞構(gòu)成復(fù)合賓語,作賓語補(bǔ)語的成分。
  5. 分詞作表語分詞作表語通?醋餍稳菰~來用,F(xiàn)在分詞表示主語的性質(zhì),而且主語多為物;過去分詞表示主語的感受或狀態(tài),主語多為人。
Stip 5. Reading
1. Using the same illustrated outline as used in the first reading, have the students read the text and fill in the outline with the four ideas and brief description of each idea in this text.
2. Discuss the title. Is there any relationship between appetite and emotion?
3. Ask the students some questions:
○1“What is an emotion eater?”
○2Do you know anybody who is an emotion eater?
○3Do the post-reading activities.
4. Students need to prepare a short summary of the text to answer the question, “what is the text about?”
