1. 我說兩個(gè)小時(shí)的時(shí)候,那是包括了吃飯的時(shí)間。
誤:When I say two hours, which includes the time for eating.
正:When I say two hours, that includes the time for eating.
析:許多同學(xué)往往想當(dāng)然地認(rèn)為在逗號(hào)后面總是用 which 引導(dǎo)定語從句,而不用 that。其實(shí),本句中的 that includes the time for eating 不是定語從句,而是主句(that 用作主句主語),其前的 when I say two hours 為狀語從句。
2. 你應(yīng)該更注意練習(xí)你的英語口語。
誤:You should pay more attention to practise your spoken English.
正:You should pay more attention to practising your spoken English.
析:有的同學(xué)們認(rèn)為to后總是接動(dòng)詞原形,構(gòu)成不定式。其實(shí),此句中的to不是不定式符號(hào),而是介詞,所以其后的動(dòng)詞要用原形。
3. 幾年前,對大多數(shù)中國人來說,在家里有一臺(tái)電腦的想法還是不大現(xiàn)實(shí)的。
誤:Just a few years ago, the idea to have a computer in one's home seemed very difficult for most Chinese.
正:Just a few years ago, the idea of having a computer in one's home seemed very difficult for most Chinese.
析:許多同學(xué)認(rèn)為表示做某事就用動(dòng)詞不定式,這要根據(jù)具體情況來定。idea后面要用of短語說明idea的內(nèi)容。
4. 盡管他只有十六歲,但是他已經(jīng)學(xué)會(huì)用英語和外國人交談了。
誤:Although he is a boy of sixteen, but he has learned to talk with the foreigners in English.
正:Although he is a boy of sixteen, he has learned to talk with the foreigners in English.
正:He is a boy of sixteen, but he has learned to talk with the foreigners in English.
析:許多同學(xué)往往認(rèn)為“雖然…但是”是關(guān)聯(lián)詞組。但although是從屬連詞,而but為并列連詞,故不能同時(shí)出現(xiàn)在同一句中。類似的還有because和so,也不能連用。
5. 他遲到的原因是因?yàn)樗麤]趕上早班車。
誤:The reason why he was late is because he didn’t catch the early bus.
正:The reason why he was late is that he didn’t catch the early bus.
析:許多同學(xué)認(rèn)為“因?yàn)?rdquo;表原因就用because,但在此句The reason why…is that中that引導(dǎo)表語從句,無實(shí)際意義。
6. 他說他將盡最大努力學(xué)好英語。
誤:He said he would do what he could learn English well.
正:He said he would do what he could to learn English well.
正:He said he would do / try his best to learn English well.
析:情態(tài)動(dòng)詞后只能跟動(dòng)詞原形。于是有的同學(xué)就出現(xiàn)了誤句。實(shí)際上,此句中“學(xué)好英語”是“盡最大努力”的目的狀語,應(yīng)該用不定式。
