一、作"留下"、"丟下"、"落下",常表示某物落在/忘在某地。如:
You'd better leave your address and telephone number.
你最好留下你的地址和電話號(hào)碼。
Better take off your shoes and leave them outside.
最好把鞋脫掉,放在外面。
I left my key in the readingroom.
我把鑰匙忘在閱覽室了。
二、 表示"留給"、"交給",一般與介詞with或to搭配。如:
Leave it with / to me and I'll see what I can do.
把它交給我,我就知道該怎么辦。
He has left a number of books with / to me.
他把好些書(shū)都存在我這兒/留給了我。
We didn't find him and left word (或a message) with his neighbours.
我們沒(méi)找到他,于是就托他的鄰居留了個(gè)條。(不用to,因?yàn)楸銞l還要交給別人)
注意: leave sth with sb, 表示"暫存",以后還要取回。leave sth to sb, 表示以后不再索還。
三、 leave作使役動(dòng)詞,表示"使/ 讓……保持某種狀態(tài)"。
�、� 用形容詞作賓語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)
Leave the door open when you go out.
出去時(shí),不要關(guān)門(mén)。
His illness left him very weak.
他生病以后,身體很虛弱。
② 用不定式作賓語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)
Leave him to do it himself.
讓他自個(gè)兒去做。
They killed the bison, cut off the skins and left the bodies to rot.
他們把野牛殺死剝皮,尸體就任其腐爛。
What we've done leaves much to be desired.
我們的工作還有很多不足之處。
③ 用現(xiàn)在分詞作賓語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)
They walked off and left me sitting there alone.
他們走開(kāi)了,讓我一個(gè)人坐在那兒。
He went out, leaving his papers lying open on the desk.
他出去時(shí),把他的文件攤在桌子上。
�、� 用過(guò)去分詞作賓語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)
Did you leave the doors and windows properly fastened?
你把門(mén)窗關(guān)好了嗎?
He left a few questions unanswered.
他還有些問(wèn)題沒(méi)有作答。
�、� 還可用名詞、介詞短語(yǔ)等作賓語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)
His parents both died last year, leaving him an orphan.
他父母去年雙雙去世,留下他成為一個(gè)孤兒。
He left his schoolbag on the playground. 他把書(shū)包丟在操場(chǎng)上了。
四、 leave的過(guò)去分詞left,常用作后置定語(yǔ),表示"剩下的"。如:
I've got two tickets left for tonight's film.
今晚的電影票我有多余的兩張。
Is there any water left in the bottle?
瓶子里還有水嗎?
注意: remaining 也可表示"剩余的",它則只能作前置定語(yǔ)。請(qǐng)看99年上海高考試題:

五、 leave還可作名詞,表示"休假"、"假期"。如:
I have 3 weeks'leave.
我有三個(gè)星期休假。
My best friend, Joan is spending her leave in Beijing.
我最好的朋友瓊正在北京度假。
He asked his teacher for sick leave.
他向老師請(qǐng)病假。
