我們都知道，英文里，this和that可以用來(lái)表示"這個(gè)"、"那個(gè)"，它們叫做指示代詞，其復(fù)數(shù)形式分別為these（這些）和those（那些）。其中近指用this和these，遠(yuǎn)指用that和those。其主要用法如下：

一、基本用法

1.作主語(yǔ)：This is what I want. 這就是我想要的。

2.作表語(yǔ)：What I want is that. 我想要的是那個(gè)。

3.作賓語(yǔ)：I like this. 我喜歡這個(gè)

4.作定語(yǔ)：I don’t like those books. 我不喜歡那些書(shū)。

二、特殊用法

1. 在電話中，向?qū)Ψ浇榻B自己時(shí)用this，詢問(wèn)對(duì)方時(shí)用that。

—Hello! This is Tom speaking. Who's that please? 喂，我是湯姆。請(qǐng)問(wèn)是哪位？

—This is Jack. 我是杰克。

2.為了避免重復(fù)，可用that，those代替前面提到過(guò)的名詞，但是this，these不可。

The grain output in 2015 was much higher than that of 2014. 2015年的糧食產(chǎn)量比2014年高很多。

Their houses are better than those of their childhood. 他們的房子比小時(shí)候的好多了。

3.this和that有時(shí)可代替句子或句中的一部分。

He was ill. That's why he didn't come to school. 他生病了，那就是他沒(méi)來(lái)學(xué)校的原因。（that作主語(yǔ)，代替He was ill）

除此以外，such 和the same也可以用作指示代詞。

1. such作為指示代詞，在句子中可用作主語(yǔ)、定語(yǔ)、表語(yǔ)。

作主語(yǔ)：Such is life! 人生便是如此！

作定語(yǔ)：I don’t like such books. 我不喜歡這類書(shū)。

作表語(yǔ)：His kindness is such that we will never forget him. 他待人那么厚道，我們永遠(yuǎn)不會(huì)忘記他。

2.the same也可以看作指示代詞，在句中能作主語(yǔ)、定語(yǔ)、表語(yǔ)和狀語(yǔ)：

作主語(yǔ)：The same is true of me. 我的情況也是如此。

作定語(yǔ)： The teacher said the same thing all over again. 老師把同樣的話又說(shuō)了一遍。

作表語(yǔ)： The two books are the same. 這兩本書(shū)是一樣的。

作狀語(yǔ)：—Sorry, I can’t find the book for you. 不好意思，沒(méi)能幫你找到書(shū)。

—Thank you all the same. 還是要謝謝你。
